Calling on her friends, family and former colleagues along with celebrities and fellow lawmakers, Harris on Thursday evening said that if she were to win the White House, she would “promise to be a president for all Americans.”
Harris also touched on the war in Gaza, saying “President Biden and I are working to end this war such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security.”
Other speakers included Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Maxwell Frost, Harris’ nieces Amara and Leela and actor Kerry Washington to cap off the last day of the DNC.

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois, spoke Thursday on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, an evening focused on the future as Kamala Harris formally accepts her party’s nomination for president.
Kinzinger spoke against his party and their support of former president Donald Trump. “The Republican Party is no longer conservative,” Kinzinger said. “It has switched its allegiance from the principles that gave it purpose to a man whose only purpose is himself. Donald Trump is a weak man pretending to be strong. He is a small man pretending to be big. He’s a faithless man pretending to be righteous. He’s a perpetrator who can’t stop playing the victim.”
Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly spoke Thursday on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, an evening focused on the future as Kamala Harris formally accepts her party’s nomination for president.
Kelly, who appeared alongside his wife, former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords earlier in the night, spoke about how former president Donald Trump damaged the reputation of the United States worldwide. “[Trump] was too busy sucking up to dictators and dreaming of becoming one himself,” Kelly said.
“Trump thinks that Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice are suckers and losers and if we fall for that again and make him the commander-in-chief, the only suckers would be us.” Harris’ speech is her first official chance to offer her vision for the country to voters. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz formally accepted the vice presidential nomination the day before.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, spoke Thursday on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, an evening focused on the future as Kamala Harris formally accepts her party’s nomination for president.
“I know in a crisis, we need someone strong enough to come up with a plan, to tell the truth and to bring people together. Right now, before the crisis, is when we get to choose. Why wouldn’t we choose the leader who’s tough, tested, and a total badass?” Whitmer asked. “I know who I want as our commander-in-chief. America, let’s choose Kamala Harris.”

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren spoke Thursday on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, an evening focused on the future as Kamala Harris formally accepts her party’s nomination for president.

Maya Harris, sister of Vice President Kamala Harris, spoke Thursday on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, an evening focused on the future as Kamala Harris formally accepts her party’s nomination for president. Maya Harris told the story of how her mother immigrated to the U.S. and raised her two daughters, expecting great things of them. “Like so many Americans, Kamala knows what it’s like to be underestimated and be counted out. She knows what it’s like to be the underdog and yet still beat the odds,” Maya said. “And now she has created so much electricity, so much optimism, so much joy throughout the nation and it is why we need her leadership in this historic moment.” Kamala Harris’ speech is her first official chance to offer her vision for the country to voters. Democrats are betting that within the American electorate is a deep desire to leave behind the bitterness of a decade dominated by former President Donald Trump.
And so, at the party’s convention Wednesday night in Chicago, a “joy” strategy — portraying Vice President Kamala Harris as the candidate who can move the nation forward — was on full display.
Former President Bill Clinton said Harris brings “sheer joy” to the 2024 race. Oprah Winfrey urged Americans to “choose joy.”
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg contrasted Trump’s “darkness” with the brand of politics offered by Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz — which he said “just feels better to be part of.”

If elected this fall, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff will usher in many “firsts” in American history. Among them: The first White House couple to have worked at McDonald’s.
With that line on their resumes, Harris and Emhoff share a link to 1 in 8 Americans who have worked at McDonald’s – 13% of the country – according to the company.
Broadcasting that shared history, as they have this week at the Democratic National Convention, has become a powerful way for Democrats to burnish their working-class credentials and, without even mentioning their rivals’ names, aim to make former President Donald Trump and the Republican ticket appear elitist and out of touch.
In several speeches and campaign ads, Democrats have been eager to remind voters that Harris, raised by a single mom in a middle class neighborhood, had a summer job slinging fries to help her pay for college.
