Proud Boys leader and top members charged with seditious conspiracy over January 6

The Justice Department on Monday charged the head of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, and four other leaders with seditious conspiracy in the January 6 US Capitol attack, escalating the criminal case against the far-right extremist group.

These are the most aggressive charges brought by the Justice Department against the Proud Boys, and are the first allegations by prosecutors that the group tried to oppose by force the presidential transfer of power.

Tarrio and his co-defendants previously pleaded not guilty to an earlier slate of charges.

The new indictment adds fresh details about what Proud Boys leaders said on January 6, 2021. Prosecutors accuse the five defendants of working together to intimidate members of Congress and law enforcement and prompt them to flee, thereby preventing them from performing their official duties.

Putin warns of new attacks if US sends long-range rockets to Ukraine

Putin warns United States against supplying Ukraine longer range missiles
Reuters, Guy FaulconbridgeJune 6, 2022

President Vladimir Putin warned the United States in an interview broadcast on Sunday that Russia would strike new targets if the West supplied longer-range missiles to Ukraine for use in high-precision mobile rocket systems.

The United States has ruled out sending its own or NATO forces to Ukraine but Washington and its European allies have supplied weapons to Kyiv such as drones, Howitzer heavy artillery, anti-aircraft Stinger and anti-tank Javelin missiles.

President Joe Biden last week said Washington would supply Ukraine with M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, after he received assurances from Kyiv that it would not be used to target Russia. read more

Putin said the arms shipments were “nothing new” and changed nothing but cautioned that there would be a response if the United States supplied longer-range munitions for the HIMARS systems which have a maximum range of up to 300 km (185 miles) or more.

GOP efforts to ‘counterprogram’ January 6 hearings will fail
CNN, Dean ObeidallahJune 6, 2022

The long-awaited hearings by the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection of the US Capitol kick off Thursday in prime time.

Per the committee’s tweet last week, the proceedings aim to “provide the American people with a summary of our findings about the coordinated, multi-step effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.”

As I wrote a week ago, committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin predicts these hearings will deliver “the story of the worst presidential political offense against the Union in American history,” which could end up being a summer sensation.

The proceedings may prove quite damning for former President Donald Trump and also are expected to attract massive media coverage — which is why Trump and his allies are desperately trying to provide “counterprogramming” to distract from the hearings.

On Saturday, Rep. Elise Stefanik — the third-ranking member of the House GOP leadership — revealed part of their plan in an interview with Breitbart News.
