Russian missile strike hits crowded shopping mall in Ukraine
Associated Press, Yuras Karmanau et al.June 27, 2022

Russian long-range bombers fired a missile that struck a crowded shopping mall in Ukraine’s central city of Kremenchuk on Monday, raising fears of what President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called an “unimaginable” number of victims in “one of the most daring terrorist attacks in European history.”

Zelenskky said more than 1,000 civilians were inside the mall, with many managing to escape. Giant plumes of black smoke, dust and orange flames emanated from the wreckage, with emergency crews rushing in to search broken metal and concrete for victims and put out fires. Onlookers watched in distress.

The casualty figures were difficult to determine as rescuers searched the smoldering rubble. The regional governor, Dmytro Lunin, said at least 15 people were dead and more than 40 wounded.

Soldiers worked into the night to lug sheets of twisted metal and broken concrete, as one drilled into what remained of the shopping center’s roof. Drones whirred above, clouds of dark smoke still emanating from the ruins several hours after the fire had been put out.

At Donald Trump’s “Save America” rally this weekend, Republican US Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade as a “historic victory for White life.”
Social media exploded after her remarks Saturday night, with many people wondering online whether the comment was a Freudian slip. Others theorized that Miller had simply said “the quiet part out loud.”

Her spokesperson said the first term congresswoman had meant to call it a “historic victory for the right to life,” not “White life.” But something else Miller said at the rally, which she has not brushed aside as a gaffe, is alarming in its own right.

I’m referring to the moment when the GOP lawmaker told former President Donald Trump, who stood behind her on the podium, “I am so honored to have your endorsement.”
