So it’s clear that if Trump wins, it will be no time to give up, no time to take more than a short (okay, maybe medium-length) break for a few stiff drinks. We’ll have to fortify ourselves by recalling the wonderful admonition of the great John McCain: It’s always darkest before it turns pitch black. Then back into the fray!
But what if Kamala Harris wins? O happy day! But even then, it won’t really be time for a break. Doing so would be like landing successfully on D-Day and then deciding to take few days off. It doesn’t work that way.
As millions of young people head to the polls today, libbing out serves as both a coping mechanism and a critique. It’s a performative buy-in to a political party and system that many people under the age of 40 are deeply skeptical of.
If Kamala does win, the temporary solace of “libbing out” likely won’t last long. While we will have averted another Trump term, true change to our political system remains elusive.
So the AI boom of the last 12 years was made possible by three visionaries who pursued unorthodox ideas in the face of widespread criticism. One was Geoffrey Hinton, a University of Toronto computer scientist who spent decades promoting neural networks despite near-universal skepticism. The second was Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, who recognized early that GPUs could be useful for more than just graphics.
The third was Fei-Fei Li. She created an image dataset that seemed ludicrously large to most of her colleagues. But it turned out to be essential for demonstrating the potential of neural networks trained on GPUs.

Ultimately, the presidential race will be decided by seven key swing states where the margins between Democrats and Republicans are exceedingly close. The states — Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, and Nevada — include some that voted for President Joe Biden in 2020, but that also voted for Trump in 2016. And as recently as this past weekend, polls were so tight in many of them that they remain a toss-up going into Election Day.
Now Cillizza is trying to define himself as something else. A creator. An independent journalist. An entrepreneur who built a business that isn’t subjected to the vicissitudes of a media conglomerate that views its employees as numbers on a spreadsheet.
